Conclusion for your essay on The Incredibles (Grade 8)

Writing the Conclusion to your Incredibles Essay (Grade Eight)

Well done on nearly everyone posting their introductions and they are really good! Today’s lesson will be about writing the conclusion. I am aware that most of you have three paragraphs to write (remember the body of the essay should be five), which is why I have decided that March 20 will be the deadline for all three assignments on The Incredibles.

They include The Preliminary Questions, Quotation Assignment and the Essay.

The Essay Structure is

1)    Introduction

2)    Paragraph One

3)    Paragraph Two

4)    Paragraph Three

5)    Paragraph Four

6)    Paragraph Five

7)    Conclusion

Please re-read the rubrics so you know how you will be assessed.

The Conclusion

Too often student’s conclusion begin with “In conclusion …” or “ Overall,…..”. It’s not that this approach is wrong but rather it is a boring way to end your essay. Just as we shouldn’t say ‘In this quote ….’, we shouldn’t say ‘In conclusion ‘’ because being the final paragraph this is rather obvious to the reader.The best conclusions are ones that return to the points you began discussing. You then write about very broadly about how those issues were presented in the film – was the message conveyed effectively? What are your thoughts? Of course, you are not supposed to introduce your new ideas here, but rather provide your reader with summary of your thoughts/findings in a reflective, general matter.

You may begin

Issues relating to identity combined with the challenge of living in a society which expects citizens to live as normal citizens in a ‘normal’ society are also problems experienced not only in the film, but also in our world.  ______________ (you need to write approx five complex sentences).
